In an interview with Metro Weekly the star of Community, Joel McHale, talked about the looming question about if there will be a seventh season on Yahoo, “No. They wanted to. But all of our contracts were up after six years. All the actors on the show, almost without exception — their stock has risen significantly and it’s out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show”.
Later, the star backtracked and tweeted:
Easy sugar-bear, Community is not canceled. #QuestionMarkSeasonsAndaMovie

The fate of the cult favorite comedy series is still undecided. A rep for Yahoo made a statement on Tuesday, saying, “We’ve seen tremendous value in our partnership with Sony and are continuing to discuss future opportunities for Community” (Variety). Fans have also been promoting the idea of six seasons of the show and a movie. At the Television Critics Association on Tuesday, co-star Ken Jeong said he “would love to do a movie… doing a movie would just be amazing”. The creator of the show, Dan Harmon, talked about the fate of Community as well at Comic Con, saying, “We wait a little bit, let [the cast] explore their awesome careers, and then we get together for an incredible movie” (Variety). Harmon also went on to say in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that “there’s a higher chance of a movie than a seventh season”. Sony Pictures, which produces the series, has declined to comment on the future of Community.
During the time in which Community was on NBC, the series was always endangered of being canceled – which it was after the fifth season. After its cancellation, Yahoo picked up the series for its sixth (and possibly final) season.
Fans are still left waiting without a definitive answer on the show’s continuation or not. Season 6 of Community wrapped up in June and we will wait to find out if it will be six seasons and a movie, seven seasons, or a cancellation for the show.
