San Diego Comic-Con was lucky enough to be greeted by the full “trio” from the popular book-to-TV adaptation, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Along with Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson), Leah Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), and Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), the panel also hosted Virginia Kull (Sally Jackson) and Adam Copeland (Ares) from the cast. Cast members reflected on past moments and memories from the first season of filming for the show, along with hinting towards the future for demigods and Camp Half Blood.
Walker Scobell divulged what it was like working with bestselling author Rick Riordan. Walker jokingly and affectionately replied that it was, “Great for me, probably terrible for him”. Aryan Simhadri pitched in as well, saying that “He gave us all really good advice… He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met”.
The cast also described their interactions with one another throughout filming, sharing favorite funny memories and pranks, and explaining what they’ve learned from each other and the show. The adult cast members were unanimous in their admiration of the kids’ work ethic, and Virginia Kull shared that Sally Jackson has taught her to “Be brave about what you have to say”.
Towards the end of the panel, attention shifted towards the future of the show. While the panelists couldn’t give away too many details about the upcoming second season, they were able to share that there would be “new friends”—one of which is Percy’s beloved half-brother, Tyson. Tyson’s casting was officially announced today, and was revealed to be Daniel Diemer. Walker, Leah, and Aryan all immediately expressed support and excitement for their new colleague, as Leah exclaimed “He’s so amazing”, and Walker promised that “You guys are going to love him”.
While there is no current release date for the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, book and TV fans alike can begin to anticipate all that is going to come with The Sea of Monsters’ adaptation onto the screen.
