Comic Book Series ‘Saucer Country’ Up For TV Adaptation

Deadline notes that out of the many choices for the comic book adaptations, Saucer County by producer Hamzah Jamjoom (Running Dry, Brothers from the Suburbs) and Alberto Lopez (The Ministry of Time, La Tira) has been started. The adaptation is being produced by Plot Point 1 Productions.

According to Deadline, the comic book takes place around Arcadia Alvarado who is a Hispanic Governor of New Mexico. She runs for President but that quickly falls apart when people think she is crazy, once she claims she was abducted by aliens. What enfolds is power plays and the highest level of secrecy with a mix of sci-fi and drama, on the levels of X-Files and The West Wing.

Deadline continues by writing that the series is written by Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, I Walk With Monsters), and the panels are drawn by Ryan Kelly (A Quiet Place, The New York Five) under DC’s label.

Saucer Country is about how a mythology can be weaponised and how the search for “the truth” can be used to obscure it. That’s a story we’re seeing played out in the headlines right now. I’m incredibly excited that my comic is going beyond the printed page, especially with a creative team that understands and loves the material,” said Cornell to Deadline.

According to Deadline, the whole first season is to set the scene and put the world into perspective, and development is underway. The original creators are working closely with the television producers to make the show as good as it can be.

“Saucer Country always stood out as a comic that treated UFO mythology with real intelligence and political weight. At a time when global politics and questions around disclosure are once again part of the public conversation, the story feels more relevant than ever. It’s a rare piece of grounded science fiction that feels uniquely suited to television at this moment,” said Lopez to Deadline.
