Time to make plans with your dumb, rich friend for the new year; you both need to find time to sit down and watch the next season of Idiotsitter.
Comedy Central’s second ever short-form-to-network-aired series was just renewed today for a second season, Variety reports. Idiotsitter, which debuted in the middle of January of this year, stars Workaholics‘s Jillian Bell as a Harvard graduate student named Billie, who, like almost every single Boston/Cambridge-area college student who doesn’t have wealthy parents, is scavenging for cash to keep herself afloat.
After answering an ad in the paper for “babysitting,” Billie prepares herself to entertain an applesauce-faced seven year-old to make a rent-saving buck. Instead, she’s greeted by an adult-sized, well, adult named Gene (Charlotte Newhouse), a money-flushed heiress who’s daddy put her on house arrest. Together the two, of course, start out at odds, but by the end of the ten-episode season, the two are thick as thieves–depraved, scandal-inducing thieves.
With the finale in March, Gene found herself holding an acceptance letter for university while Billie found herself in handcuffs; either way, the next season will apparently show both girls attending college together. And according to the @idiotsitter Twitter page, it’s “going to be a real head-turner.”
Being that it’s already June (whereas a lot of shows have been offered renewals earlier in the year), some thought Idiotsitter might have seen the last of its wild days at Comedy Central. But then again, maybe the network was just saving one of its most-liked, raunchiest sitcoms for last; since its debut to half a million viewers at the beginning of this year, Idiotsitter has been receiving positive ratings from critics, earning it a glowing 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The show’s high praise wasn’t the only factor that influenced Comedy Central to act, it seems.
“I don’t know what it is about that title, but it just resonates for me … said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman.
Both Bell and Newhouse, who each serve as exec producers for Idiotsitter, shared their brimming excitement for the next season.
“We’re so excited to get to do this again,” said the actresses. “It’s literally the most fun we’ve ever had in our lives. Hopefully the new college atmosphere will broaden our minds and teach us how to butt chug.”
Season two of Idiotsitters is set to air sometime in 2017, and it will be led by Pam Kohl, Amy Slomovits, Dave Becky, Brady McKay and John Levenstein, as well as the Bell-Newhouse duo.
