The Daily Show is loading up the shelf with correspondents who are going to fill the shoes of Jon Stewart (The Daily Show) when his time is up. According to Deadline, comedians Josh Johnson (The Daily Show), Troy Iwata (WeCrashed), and Grace Kuhlenschmidt (The Daily Show) have been selected to join the team or correspondents for the comedic talk show, and they are the first to do so in quite some time.
According to Deadline, the three are the first in six years to be added to the correspondent team. The last was the addition of Dulce Sloan who joined in 2017. Iwata and Kuhlenschmidt have been a part of the show since October 2023, and Johnson, who has been on the writing team for The Daily Show, also made his on-screen debut this past February. While the trio has been involved and on screen for the show for a handful of months, their move to being official correspondents has just happened now.
Iwata, along with working on The Daily Show, has previously worked on series such as WeCrashed on AppleTV+, which also starred actors Jared Leto (Morbius, Suicide Squad) and Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada), and the series Dash & Lily on Netflix.
Kuhlenschmidt has worked on Daily Show sketches, one most notably alongside correspondent Michael Kosta (The Daily Show), where the two were shown debating the offer of $500,000, or getting a bite to eat at lunch with Jay-Z. She has also worked on Peacock’s Killing It alongside being a stand-up comedian and actress.
Johnson has been writing for the show since 2017, when Trevor Noah (The Daily Show) was host. He has previously made his debut on-screen late-night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In addition, he also has stand-up specials on Comedy Central and Netflix.
Stewart was announced as the host in January and will continue to cover through the 2024 presidential election. Since his return, The Daily Show saw an upswing in numbers since the departure of Noah.
