Once Upon A Time alum, Colin O’Donoghue (Luck, The Rite, Wizards) has hopes for a revival of the famous ABC fantasy show, ScreenRant exclusively reports. The show, in which O’Donoghue starred as a series regular, was graced with his role as the charming and self-proclaimed “devilishly handsome” character of Captain Hook. The famous show went on for seven full seasons, each one consisting of 23-24 episodes. O’Donoghue starred in it from the third to the seventh.
According to ScreenRant‘s show’s description, “Once Upon a Time is an adventure fantasy-drama series created for ABC that features fairy tale characters and their Disney incarnations in a modern setting. When Emma Swan and her son Henry accidentally drive into the town of Storybrooke, they soon discover the inhabitants are those from fairy tales, and they have no knowledge of the modern world inhabited by Emma and Henry. Robbed of their pasts and given new identities by the Evil Queen known as Regina, the hope of the town’s residents lie solely in the hands of Emma, who has stronger connections to the town than she knows.”
Since this show has come to a close, O’Donoghue has pursued voice acting for a change. In an exclusive interview with Collider, O’Donoghue shared his wish for a revival to happen, and he believes that the audience would be willing to see more stories to come to life.
“I think that the show could definitely go again. I mean, look, it’s a call for Eddie and Adam, really. I’ve spoken to them and a few other people about it, and I think what’s great about Once is I think that you could kind of come back and just pick up where it left off, or whatever that is. Or a reunion in the metaverse. But, look, what was great about Once Upon a Time, and what was great about working on it was that every episode there was something new and fresh and different. There was a different world, there were different characters, there were different sorts of aspects of Disney and fairy tales,” O’Donoghue explained, via ScreenRant.
He continued, “Here’s the thing, fairy tales will never go out of fashion. They haven’t for hundreds of years, and I don’t see them going out of fashion anytime soon. Also, there are no shows like that now at the minute, you know what I mean? I mean, don’t get me wrong, there’s tons of really incredible shows. But there’s nothing like that where it was a case of families were literally excited to sit down on a Sunday night to watch it together and spend time with each other and talk about it. The community of people who came together because of Once Upon a Time is just incredible, like a family.”
According to ScreenRant, even if O’Donoghue wants a revival to happen, it doesn’t seem like it actually will. Even co-star Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, COBRA, Eragon), who played the role of the cunning and charming anti-hero Rumplestiltskin, stated previously that the show should have ended a long time ago. Nevertheless, the show concluded with each of the character finding their happiness. For example, the character of Regina was crowned the Good Queen, and Rumplestiltskin found happiness with his long-time love princess Belle in the afterlife. So, this could ensure that some of the most beloved character won’t be able to return. Also, the show went on for over 7 years, which is one of the reasons why the entire ensemble could not appear in a possible revival. A spin-off was already proven to not be the best thing for this show, with Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.
The show was written by showrunner Adam Horowitz (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Dead of Summer, Ouija) and directed by Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty, Insatiable, The Lincoln Lawyer). It stars Ginnifer Goodwin (Why Women Kill, Something Borrowed, Big Love), Josh Dallas (Manifest, Thor: The Dark World, The Descent), Lana Parrilla (Why Women Kill, The Lincoln Lawyer, Spin City), Carlyle, Jennifer Morrison (House, How I Met Your Mother, This is Us) and Jared Gilmore (The Back-up Plan, Overnight, Opposite Day).
Once Upon A Time‘s seven seasons are now available to stream on Disney+.
