Colin Farrell is confirmed to continue his role from The Batman, as Penguin, in the upcoming HBO Max series, via Deadline. Farrell is set to play the role in the 2022 movie of the same name, and the HBO Max series will be the spinoff of the movie. The movie will come out on March 4, 2022.
Farrell is known for his performances in The Lobster, The Gentlemen, Total Recall, and Alexander. The Penguin will be one of the two HBO Max spinoffs of The Batman. In December 2021, Farrell signed on to reprise his role; he will also serve as an executive producer of this series. The other spinoff show will center on the Gotham City Police Department.
The Penguin is one of the most iconic members of the Batman Rogues Gallery. The style of the penguin contains his top hat, monocle, and wide variety of deadly umbrellas. Before Farrell, several actors have taken on the role of the Penguin including Burgess Meredith (Rocky), Danny DeVito (Taxi), and Robin Lord Taylor (Gotham).
Other than Farrell, Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes) and Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) would executively produce the Penguin series under their 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions banners, respectively. Warner Bros Television is producing. They are also the producers for the upcoming Batman movie.
HBO Max hasn’t announced production process or release date for the spinoff series yet. It’s likely that more information will be available after the release of the movie.
