Martin Kove (Karate Kid, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) has been accused of sexual misconduct on the set of Cobra Kai’s final season, Deadline’s Dominic Patten reported on Thursday. The allegation puts the actor/martial artist’s behavior under an additional layer of scrutiny just days after he admitted to biting co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim (Crash, Hawaii Five-O) during a convention meet-and-greet last Sunday, according to a statement obtained by Variety.
An anonymous source that claims to have insider knowledge on the matter told Deadline that an extra for Cobra Kai filed a sexual harassment complaint against Kove in April of 2024 while shooting the Karate Kid follow-up series’ sixth season. Although the alleged abuse never became physical in nature, the extra stated to studio executives that Kove had stared at her and made comments about her in a manner that made her uncomfortable.
Deadline details that Sony conducted an internal investigation into Kove’s actions following the unidentified actress’ report, reaching out to other members of Cobra Kai’s production as well as the actress herself to attain more information. The investigation culminated in a meeting between Kove and Sony executives in which “he was read the riot act,” the insider claims, indicating the studio concluded that there was some measure of truth to the allegations.
Other sources told Deadline that Kove was not required to leave the set following the studio’s conclusions, and was instructed to issue an apology to the extra in question, though whether or not he did remains publicly unknown. Contacted representatives from Sony and Netflix had no comment on the matter.
Kove himself, however, did respond to Deadline’s request for comment, stating that there was no physical or emotional abuse of any kind. “It wasn’t true then, and it isn’t true now,” he said. He also expressed his frustration with the interviewer, remarking, “This is so bizarre as it was in April of last year.”
While Kove denies wrongdoing in the April 2024 incident, he recently issued an apology to Cobra Kai co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim for his aforementioned assault at last week’s convention, per Variety. “I deeply regret and apologize for my actions regarding the incident with Alicia (Hannah-Kim),” he writes, “a genuinely kind and wonderful person who didn’t deserve to be put in this position. I’ve always respected her and considered her a highly professional and talented co-worker on Cobra Kai. I was being playful in the moment but went too far and there is absolutely no excuse for my behavior. I regret my actions for which I take full responsibility for what I did, and again I apologize to her and her husband. I’m committed to learning from this and it will never happen again.”
Variety states that Hannah-Kim did not press charges against Kove, but nevertheless chose to file a police report in case a pattern of behavior emerges.
