‘Cobra Kai’ Season 3 Premieres in January as Season 4 Enters Production

The Karate Kid reboot sequel series, Cobra Kai, is officially coming back for another season. Comic Book confirmed today that the long-awaited season 3 will premiere on January 8th, 2021 and a fourth season has entered production.

The details first appeared in a teaser trailer uploaded to YouTube by Netflix. The teaser recaps the cliff-hanger ending of Season 2, in which Cobra Kai’s star student Miguel fell off a balcony and ended up unconscious in the hospital. The dramatic teaser ends with Miguel waking up. The teaser also hints at several things to come in new scenes where Cobra Kai sensei Johnny has a scar on his forehead and black eyes, Johnny’s sensei Kreese grins sinisterly with a bloody nose as Johnny’s rival Danniel asks him “What did you think would happen?”

Cobra Kai takes place 30 years after the original 1984 Karate Kid film. The series follows Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka, Hot Tub Time Machine) turning over a new leaf by restarting the failed Cobra Kai dojo to teach new students karate. His old rival Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio, The Outsiders) starts a new dojo called Miaygi-Do to stop Cobra Kai from becoming popular once more. Johnny realizes Cobra Kai is too violent as his old mentor Kreese (Once Upon A Time in Hollywood) takes over and teaches the students to fight viscously and without honor. As Johnny and Daniel’s rivalry rekindles, rivalry also flared between the students of their dojos. Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood) stars as Miguel, Mary Mouse (Scandal) plays Daniel’s daughter Samantha, and Tanner Buchanan (Modern Family) plays Johnny’s son Robby.

Cobra Kai originally premiered on YouTube Red on May 2nd, 2018. The series was successful on the platform, but YouTube later sold the series as they decided to transition away from scripted shows for their premium service. Netflix acquired these rights, including for those of the finished yet unaired season 3. Now, the third season will premiere as a Netflix original, with the service taking over for production fully with the fourth season. You can watch the teaser for the third season below.
