Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes will not return to host the third hour of popular talk show Good Morning America, according to Deadline. An ABC News spokesperson has confirmed that the couple will be cutting ties with the ABC network, reportedly after much negotiation and mediation sessions: “After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News. We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions.” The co-anchors will receive payouts in accordance with their contracts, says TMZ, who were first to report the news.
Holmes and Robach were co-anchors for GMA3: What You Need To Know, and were pulled off the air in December, following tabloid pictures by The Daily Mail that exposed their romantic relationship.
Following the scandal, Good Morning America saw a rise of eleven percent in numbers. The average 1.63 million viewers jumped up to 1.81 million viewers on December 1st and steadily decreased throughout the week before reaching the usual number of viewers again.
Holmes and Robach have been with ABC News since 2014 and 2012, respectively, and joined the GMA3 team in 2020. Both are separated from their partners and have children. Neither one of them has addressed the situation publicly.
Robach also served as co-anchor of 20/20, alongside David Muir, and will be exiting the show as well. ABC News President Kim Godwin reportedly sent a memo to employees telling them that the stories about Robach and Holmes have been a “distraction” at work. Additionally, Godwin mentioned that information about new hosts for 20/20 and GMA3 “will come later.” An official announcement has not been released yet.
GMA3 airs on weekdays at 1 p.m. Eastern time on ABC. Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos replaced the hosts in December; permanent anchors for the show have yet to be announced.
