CNN to Debut ‘Sole Survivor’ Documentary

CNN will debut Sole Survivor, a documentary film about survivors of major aircraft disasters.

According to Indiewire, the documentary is written and directed by Ky Dickens (Fish Out of Water). It premiered at the Austin Film Festival and will have its premiere on television on CNN Thursday, January 9, 9 p.m., 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. ET. It will encore on Sunday, January 12 with the same broadcast times.

There have been 14 large airplane crashes with each only having one survivor. George Lamson, Jr., age 17, was the sole survivor on the Galaxy Airlines flight 203 crash near Reno, NV in 1985. The film follows Lamson on a journey to meet the other 13 sole survivors to explore the emotions that come with this tragic event, including survivor’s guilt.

Dickens and others attached to the documentary will give behind-the-scenes commentary and respond to questions about the film using social media hashtag #SoleSurvivorFilm.
