According to Deadline, the American adaptation of the BBC’s long-running comedy panel series, Have I Got News for You, will kick off its highly anticipated second season on Saturday, February 15, at 9 PM ET/PT on CNN. The announcement was made during the annual broadcast of CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, where host Roy Wood Jr. (Sullivan & Son), best known for his work on The Daily Show, made a lively appearance. He was joined by team captains Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show) and Michael Ian Black (The State, Wet Hot American Summer), both of whom bring their own distinct comedic flair to the series.
Produced by Hat Trick Productions for CNN Originals, the show offers a sharp, witty and often irreverent take on the biggest news stories of the week. Wood Jr. leads an ensemble cast of comedians, entertainers and celebrity guests through fast-paced panel discussions and creative comic challenges designed to test their knowledge of current events while keeping the audience entertained. The series, which first premiered on September 13, debuted alongside encore presentations of Real Time with Bill Maher, underscoring CNN’s strategic push into topical entertainment programming. Season two was officially greenlit in November, even before the season one finale aired, signaling the network’s confidence in the show’s growing popularity.
Throughout its first season, the program welcomed an impressive lineup of guests, including Robin Thede (A Black Lady Sketch Show), Andy Richter (Conan), Mark McKinnon (Mayor of Kingstown), Ana Navarro (About My Father), Larry Wilmore (The Bernie Mac Show), Adam Kinzinger (PBS News Hour), Anthony Scaramucci (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Bomani Jones (Game Theory with Bomani Jones), Rep. Tim Burchett (Ancient Aliens) and journalist Kara Swisher (Silicon Valley). Amy Entelis, CNN’s EVP of Talent and Creative Development, praised the show as a “lively extension of the CNN brand” and emphasized its role in offering much-needed comic relief on Saturday nights. Executive producer Jimmy Mulville (Alas Smith & Jones, Chelmsford 123) echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement for the show’s return and joking that there will be no shortage of news to poke fun at in the coming year.
The series is helmed by executive producers Mulville and Richard Wilson (One Foot in the Grave) of Hat Trick Productions, alongside Jim Biederman (Would I Lie to You), ensuring a seamless blend of sharp wit, engaging conversation and timely humor for audiences tuning in each week.
