Major news had dropped on the highly antiquated animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. According to Comicbook, before the series is scheduled to swing on Disney+ on January 29th, prequel comic will be released by Marvel, which follows the journey of Peter Parker, voiced by Hudson Thames (What If…?), into the titled web crawler, and an official synopsis stating, “on his way to becoming Spider-Man, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.” According to a mxdwn post, the series animation style is inspired to resemble a comic back in the 1960s.
The new series will see Spider-Man facing off against some of his recognizable villains, such as Doc Octopus, Rhino and Norman Osborn, voiced by Colman Domingo (Candyman), alongside some lesser-known ones, which include Speed Demon and Unicorn. According to Comicbook, it was revealed that new foes will be introduced from the comic to the series called the Enforcers, which will consist of Fancy Dan, Montana and Ox. The group in several comics has been through different hires from the Green Goblin to Sandman to Kingpin and so forth.
It was stated by series writer, Christos Gage (The Breed) in an interview with Comicbook and announced,”I’ve had the privilege of writing a lot of Spider-Man’s adventures, both in comics and in the Insomniac video games, but one thing I’ve never gotten the chance to do is recount his earliest exploits.”
He continues the statement with,”And the exciting part about this book is it’s a brand new take on those formative times. While this is definitely Peter Parker, the Spidey we know and love, he’s got a new cast of supporting characters — including Nico Minoru, who you may know from Runaways — and some surprising twists!”
According to a mxdwn post, this series will provide a new viewpoint on the legendary hero, as both old and new fans will see how Peter must balance high school, caring for his aunt, and becoming a superhero.
