It’s been a long time coming, but season two of Showtime’s crime drama City on a Hill is almost here. After over two years since its first season debuted, Showtime released a full length trailer for season two, starring Kevin Bacon (Footloose, The Following) as gritty FBI Agent Jackie Rohr solving crime in Boston, via Indiewire.
With it’s premiere nearing on March 28, Showtime released an updated synopsis for season two which was picked up by Indiewire: “Season 2 centers on a federal housing project in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston that is plagued with drug violence and a rightful distrust in local law enforcement. As coalition leader Grace Campbell (Pernell Walker) works tirelessly on behalf of the community, her efforts are undermined by gang activity happening right under her nose. Enter irreverent FBI agent Jackie Rohr (Bacon), who is here to exploit Boston’s defective criminal justice system in a desperate attempt to salvage his own career. Unfortunately for Jackie, assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward (Hodge) is onto his adversary’s latest misstep. In time, the personal antagonism between these two escalates to an all-out war between the offices of the U.S. Attorney and the Suffolk DA. No one is safe from the collateral damage.”
Along with Bacon, the series stars Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami), as Assistant District Attorney Decourcy Ward and also features Jonathan Tucker (Monsterland), Amanda Clayton (If Loving You is Wrong), Jill Hennessy (Crawford), Kevin Chapman (Mystic River), and Mike O’Brien (Marriage Story).
The trailer for season two of City on a Hill kicks off with a bang as crime runs wild in the city of Boston. Taking place in 1993, a collision of politics, crime, and drugs lead to a new set of problems for Rohr and Hodge as they differ in their tactics for how to go about solving cases and bringing justice to those who deserve it.
Season one of City on a Hill premiered all the way back in June of 2019, containing ten hour long episodes. The show received generally positive reviews, and was even compared to HBO’s acclaimed cop drama The Wire. City on a Hill is executive produced by Boston native Ben Affleck (Good Will Hunting, The Way Back), alongside fellow Bostonian Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting, The Martian), Jorge Zamacona (Third Watch), Oscar winner Barry Levinson (Rain Man), Chuck MacLean (Mongoose), and Michael Cuesta (Homeland). Bacon and Hodge also executive produce.
