Christina Ricci Talks About ‘Yellowjackets’ Season Two

In an interview on The Last Show With Stephen Colbert, two-time Emmy nominee Christina Ricci (Wednesday, Casper) discusses her character and the pressure she felt while filming season two of Yellowjackets. The thriller will be releasing its second season in less than two weeks, to the delight of many fans. Yellowjackets became an instant hit after its 2021 release, receiving a 100% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes and seven Emmy nominations.

Ricci spoke for the cast, saying, “Everybody was terrified. There’s been a lot of hype and build-up about how good everything is… It’s so wonderful to be so well-received and the accolades and everything, but then you have to go back and do it again.”

Ricci plays the adult version of Misty Quigley on the horror show, a character known for her desire to feel needed. She often does questionable things to manipulate other characters into relying on her. The actress says of her role: “For me, she’s so specific, this character I play. And people picked out little things, like the way I walked as Misty. But, I was pregnant at the time. So my walk was because I had a baby inside of me. So when I went back to do season two, I was like, ‘Why can’t I do the walk?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, damnit, I’m not pregnant anymore!’ So there were little things like that and yes, it’s intimidating.”

Additionally, she describes one similarity between herself and Misty. When talk show host Stephen Colbert (The Daily Show, Our Cartoon President) labels her character as passive-aggressive, Ricci is quick to say, “I love it… I’m a very passive-aggressive person, personally.”

Ricci also teases a potential love interest for her character, Elijah Wood’s (The Lord of the Rings franchise, Star Wars Resistance) Walter. “Elijah is amazing. He’s so fun. Most of the season, for me, was spent with Elijah in two-man scenes, and it was so fun to work with him. He’s so good.”

Via The Hollywood Reporter, the premise of season two will skip to two months since the season one finale of the first timeline in 1996; “In the face of their deepening hunger and fear, the tension among our Yellowjackets has only grown worse. The harsh conditions of winter are intensifying by the day, and the psyches of our survivors are deteriorating just as fast. Threatened by the darkness of the wilderness — and the haunting memories of it in the present — our former state champs will be forced to make impossible decisions. As they confront the horrible truth of what survival entails, the real nightmare for each of them will be to figure out who they are — and what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive.”

Yellowjackets season two will debut on Friday, March 24 on the SHOWTIME platform and will air on the network on Sunday, March 26, at 9 p.m. EST. The official trailer is available below.
