Comedic actress Christina Applegate’s acting career is about to get slightly more dramatic.
Applegate, who is known for her roles on comedies like Married… With Children (1987–1997), Jesse (1998–2000) and Samantha Who? (2007–2009), is set to star in a new dramedy from Lifetime, Deadline reports.
Starting in 1987, Applegate played the role of the sexually promiscuous daughter (Kelly Bundy) on Married… With Children, Fox’s first sitcom, portraying the character for ten years.
She also guest-starred on two episodes of Friends during its ninth and tenth seasons, titled “The One with Rachel’s Other Sister”, for which she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, and also in “The One Where Rachel’s Sister Babysits” as Rachel’s (Jennifer Aniston) sister. In the 2004 film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Applegate starred as TV anchorwoman Veronica Corningstone.
This new series featuring Applegate – Your Time Is Up – is written by Kathleen Robertson (Murder in the First) and produced by Oscar-nominated producer Gil Netter (Life of Pi). In the show, Applegate plays an overwhelmed psychologist attempting to reclaim her life after tragedy hits her family. She puts in place a unique approach to helping her patients, which is inspired by her unconventional upbringing.
Your Time Is Up was set up at Lionsgate TV in summer 2015 and then sold to Lifetime.
