Christian Serratos From AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ In Negotiations To Play Selena For New Netflix Series

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Christian Serratos is currently in negotiations to play Selena Quintanilla in a Netflix scripted series entitled Selena: The Series. When The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Netflix for comment on the casting decision, the streamer declined.

That being said, sources have confirmed that Serratos is the frontrunner for the role, although the casting decision is complicated by her involvement with AMC’s The Walking Dead. Since the zombie drama’s fourth season, Serratos has portrayed Rosita, fan favorite amongst The Walking Dead comic book fans. In order for the casting decision to be finalized, the actress will have to reconcile her production schedule for The Walking Dead’s 10th season in Atlanta and Selena: The Series.

As of Tuesday, neither a premiere date nor episode count for Selena: The Series have been announced. Vulture has reported that the show, which was picked up straight to series in late 2018, has been written to span two seasons and will begin production in Mexico next month. Since this schedule overlaps with production for The Walking Dead, Serratos’ days on the hugely popular show may be coming to an end.

Selena: The Series has been described as coming of age story and follows Selena’s journey as a singer, songwriter, fashion designer, model, and actress. When she launched her music career in 1980, the young Mexican-American woman was hailed as the “Tejano Madonna.” After 14 years in the music industry, Selena won a Grammy Award, making her the first Tajano woman to win for best Mexican/American album. She has since sold over 65 million albums worldwide. Although successful, the singer songwriter’s career ended in tragedy when she was shot and killed by a friend in 1995. Yolanda Saldivar, who managed her fan club and was discovered to have been embezzling money from Selena’s company, was convicted of her murder and is now serving a life sentence in Texas.

Moisés Zamora, known for Star and American Crime has been hired to write the script and executive produce Selena: The Series. He will be joined by fellow executive producers Campanario Entertainment president Jaime Davila, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quintanilla, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., Selena’s father, and Simran A. Singh.
