Deadline reports that their sister publication, TVLine, was the first to publish the news. This comes after several other cast announcements that NBC had made about the heavyweight property. This May, Deadline previously reported that both Juliana Martinez (9-1-1, Griselda) and Octavio Pisano (El Campo, Coyote) would no longer be among the series regulars. Additionally, behind-the-camera writer/producer Julie Martin (Homicide: Life On The Street, The Bedford Diaries) and director/executive producer Norberto Barba (Better Call Saul, The Event) will no longer be working on the series. There will still be some familiar faces, as Kelli Giddish (All My Children, Chicago P.D.) will return as Amanda Rollins, and Donna Kelly (Chicago Med, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) will be promoted from a recurring role to a series regular.
Via Deadline, SVU, along with the original series, were renewed by the network with Michelle Fazekas (Reaper, Gen V) making headlines as the first female showrunner of the series. The two shows have achieved a series high in viewership on Peacock, reaching over 44 million views when combining digital and linear numbers.
According to Deadline, while not being billed as a series regular since season 12, Meloni’s Elliot Stabler has made several appearances in the seasons since, including season 24 with a romance plot line between him and Mariska Hargitay’s (Lake Placid, Tales From Earthsea) Olivia Benson. Although the romance never fully came to fruition, fans of the series have been dying to see the relationship reach maturity. Meloni responded to fans requests to “kiss her already” with “I’m f***ing trying” earlier this week. Both of the Law & Order series can be viewed by fans on September 25th.
