Chris Daughtry to Star and Write Music for Dramedy ‘Studio City’ On Fox

Chris Daughtry, former American Idol contestant, is returning to Fox in new dramedy Studio City.

The new pilot will run for one hour and is inspired by the life of show runner Krista Vernoff. The pilot will portray the story of a young singer’s (newcomer Florence Pugh) path to stardom. She lives with her songwriter father, Rob (Will & Grace alum Eric McCormack), who surprisingly turns out to be a drug dealer for the stars.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Daughtry will star as Keith Rhodes, who ends up being a drug addict rock star. Not only will Chris Daughtry be acting on the show, but the lead vocalist/guitarist for Daughtry will also compose the original music for the show.

This role marks Daughtry’s biggest role to date. He is best known for finishing in fourth place during the fifth season of Fox’s American Idol. Soon after he landed a record deal with RCA and formed his band, Daughtry. In just five weeks of release, the band’s self-titled debut moved more than 1 million copies.

Daughtry joins a Studio City cast that also includes Heather Graham, Jeanine Mason, Riley Smith, Samantha Logan, Jordan Calloway and Timothy Granaderos.

Krista Vernoff (Grey’s Anatomy) will write the script and executive produce alongside John Wells and Andrew Stearn. Sanaa Hamri will be directing Studio City.

Chris Daughtry is represented by CAA and Pearl Group Entertainment.
