Secrets, secrets are no fun unless they’re shared with everyone. HBO Max shared on Friday that Chandler Kinney (Zombies 2) and Maia Reficco (Sometimes I Feel Like Dying) have been cast in the highly anticipated Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin reboot series. Helmed by teenage melodrama mastermind Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Sabrina the Teenage Witch), this is the first casting announcement made for the upcoming series, as reported by Deadline.
Kinney is set to play Tabby, who is described by Deadline as, “an aspiring director and horror movie buff. Like the other Little Liars, Tabby’s hiding a secret.” Kinney’s previous acting credits include starring in the Fox comedy-drama series, Lethal Weapon, for three seasons from 2016 through 2019. She also stars in the Disney Channel Original film trilogy, Zombies.
Reficco has been cast as Noa, who is a, “striving, sardonic track star who’s working hard to get her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile detention,” via Deadline. Reficco previously acted in the telenovela Kally’s Mashup on Nickelodeon Latin America. Paying homage to the original Pretty Little Liars series which ran on ABC Family turned Freeform from 2010-2017, Reficco wrote on her Instagram: “Got a secret, can you keep it?” Announcing her casting in the reboot, the caption was in reference to the original theme song for the series which played during the opening title sequence.

The upcoming reboot has been described as a darker reimagining of the original series as it has found a home at HBO Max. Written by Aguirre-Sacasa and Calhoon Bring (Frequency), the series will be a complete reset involving new characters and a new story.
Deadline picked up the official synopsis: “Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago…as well as their own. In the dark, coming-of-age, horror-tinged drama Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, we find ourselves miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe — in a brand-new town, with a new generation of Little Liars.”
Both the original series and the reboot Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is an adaptation from the book series under the same name written by author Sara Shepard (The Lying Game). Aguirre-Sacasa, Gina Girolamo (You), Leslie Morgenstein (The 100), Michael Grassi (Riverdale), and Caroline Baron (Lisey’s Story) executive produce.
