Hulu’s Chad Powers, starring Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, Anyone But You), is currently planned to conclude with its third season. According to ScreenRant, series co-creator Michael Waldron (Loki, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Rick and Morty) revealed that he and Powell have envisioned a three-season run for the sports comedy.
The series follows former college quarterback Russ Holliday, played by Powell, as he attempts to revive his football career by disguising himself as Chad Powers and joining a struggling college football team. The second season premiered on Hulu on September 3.
While discussing the future of the series, Waldron explained that three seasons has been the plan for him and Powell because the story is designed to unfold over the course of a single college football season. However, he did not completely rule out the possibility of continuing the series beyond that point.
Waldron said the creative team already has an idea of where the story could go in a third season. If Hulu gives the series another season, the writers would begin developing the next chapter based around that original three-season plan.
Powell co-created Chad Powers with Waldron. The character was inspired by Eli Manning’s (Chad Powers, The Simpsons, Capital One College Bowl) appearance on the ESPN+ series Eli’s Places, in which the former NFL quarterback disguised himself as Chad Powers while participating in a college football tryout.
Powell leads the cast as Russ Holliday/Chad Powers, alongside Perry Mattfeld (Shameless, In the Dark, Wizards of Waverly Place) as Ricky, Quentin Plair (Welcome to Chippendales, The Good Lord Bird, The Quad) as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett (Agent Carter, This Is Us, Palmer) as Tricia Yeager, Frankie A. Rodriguez (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Will & Grace, Modern Family) as Danny and Steve Zahn (The White Lotus, The Righteous Gemstones, Diary of a Wimpy Kid) as Coach Jake Hudson.
Season two received a stronger critical response than the first season, earning a 93% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes compared with 60% for season one, according to ScreenRant.
Despite the creators’ plans for a three-season story, Hulu has not yet officially renewed Chad Powers for season three. Season two is currently available to stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
