According to Deadline, CBS’s Matlock series regular actor, David Del Rio (The Good Doctor, Sick For Toys), exited the CBS legal drama after he was accused of alleged sexual assault. Apparently, the incident allegedly happened on September 26 with fellow actor Leah Lewis (Car: Lightning Racers, Batwheels).
Right after the alleged incident was reported, the producers of CBS Studios immediately took action. Deadline reports Del Rio was let go and escorted off the studio lot the same day as the alleged assault was filed. Allegedly, Eric Christian Olsen (Andy Irons: Kissed By God, Bald), the executive producer of Matlock, was just one of the crew members who walked Del Rio off the lot.
According to Deadline, filming will be on hiatus next week and plans to resume production after the Thanksgiving holiday, with all scripts rewritten to incorporate Del Rio’s character exiting the show. Del Rio portrayed the character Billy Martinez, who was a first-year associate at the law firm Jacobson Moore, around which the show is centered. Kathy Bates (The Big Bang Theory, A Little Bit of Heaven) plays Madeline Matlock, better known as Matty. Matty claims to be a widowed lawyer who joins the firm to prove they were responsible for absolving a drug company from accountability for the opioid epidemic. The cast also includes Skye P. Marshall (East New York, Park Avenue) as colleague Olympia Lawrence, and Jason Ritter (Captain Fall, Poker Face) as her ex-husband and associate, Julian Markston.
The second season of Matlock is on the schedule to premiere on October 12, 2025. According to mxdwn.com, the trailer revealed that the second season will pick up from the previous season, with Matty being outed by Olympia, who promises to help her discover the culprit. And a surprise guest, Matty’s grandson’s father, arriving to meet the son he never knew.
Deadline mentions that in season one, ironically, episode three told the story of when Matlock took on a sexual assault case when a young lawyer claimed that her boss had assaulted her.
Season one of Matlock is available to stream on Paramount+. The second season premieres on CBS.
