The late actor Bob Newhart (The Bob Newhart Show), who passed away this past Thursday, July 18, will be honored on CBS this upcoming week. According to Deadline, CBS will be airing an hour-long tribute to the late actor. The special is titled Bob Newhart: A Legacy of Laughter and will air this Monday, July 22nd at 8 pm EST on CBS and will be streaming on Paramount+ .
The special will be hotels by Nischelle Turner, of the show Entertainment Tonight. The special will take viewers though a look back to his 70 years of acting on the screen. According to Deadline, the special will not only air interviews, and behind-the-scenes looks at the actor, but it will also release some never-before-seen content including his final interview that he gave in his home in Los Angeles. Deadline also described the special as an “in depth look” of the long journey that the actor took on his way to the silver screen. From starting as an accountant to becoming a beloved actor and comedian, the special intends to honor his work with the never-before-seen footage and interviews that will be aired. All of which sit in the Entertainment Tonight vault.
Newhart passed away this past Thursday at the age of 94. According to Deadline, He passed away in his Los Angeles home after a series of short illnesses. After his passing, actors, studios, and every inch of the entertainment industry rushed to share their condolences and honor the beloved actor’s work. With CBS airing this hour-long special, CBS will bring all of these corners of the industry together to pay tribute to Newhart.
Deadline reported that the special’s interviews would include ones from Newhart and his closest friends and co-stars.. Some of these are Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde), Will Ferrell (Saturday Night Live, Stepbrothers), Jason Batement (Juno, Arrested Development), and Michael Weatherly (Remember the Titans). The series also will take viewers into a look at the actor’s marriage to his true love, Ginnie, and other aspects of his personal life as it explores Newhart’s cultural impact using comedy.
