This winter season just got a little sweeter as, according to TV Line, many CBS series will resume broadcast in February 2024. CBS has some new series coming and some that will see the chopping block post-strike. As reported before, among these new shows are Matlock, a reboot of the 1986 mystery series starring Kathy Bates (American Horror Story, Disjointed), and Poppa’s House, a Wayans comedy.
Both series will be a part of the 2024-25 season and were signed on to the network in May. With SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes ending, CBS might push back the series until fall 2024.
Matlock reimagines the Andy Griffith 80’s classic and follows, played by Bates, Madeline Matlock, who is described as a “brilliant septuagenarian” and one who “rejoins the workforce at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases and expose corruption from within,” read the logline via TV Line.
Other stars that are set to make an appearance are Jason Ritter (Gravity Falls, Freddy vs. Jason), David Del Rio (The Troop, The Baker and the Beauty), Skye P. Marshall (Good Sam, To Her, With Love) and Leah Lewis (Elemental, Nancy Drew)
On the flip side, Poppa’s House follows Damon Wayans (My Wife and Kids, In Living Color) as he portrays a “legendary talk radio host” who feels challenged at his job by a new female co-host who is portrayed by Essence Atkins (Half & Half, A Haunted House.)
He also feels challenged at home as he still parents his adult son, played by Damon Wayans Jr (Happy Endings, New Girl). The series wraps up Wayans’s character as “a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband,” told by TV Line. Tetona Jackson (Home Economics, Boomerang) will also star.
The CBS midseason lineup will start shortly after the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 11, with Tracker starring Justin Hartley (This Is Us, Smallville.)
