Young Sheldon got an early renewal for a second season. The announcement was made during the TCA winter press tour. It is also the first freshman comedy television show for CBS that has found itself with an early pick up. In its first season Young Sheldon is the number one new comedy among the total amount of viewers, and it is actually also the number two comedy on television behind only the show it is spinning off from: The Big Bang Theory.
Young Sheldon is the prequel to The Big Bang Theory. The show itself is a comedy about Parsons’ Sheldon (from The Big Bang Theory) starring Iain Armitage (young Sheldon) and Zoe Perry (young Sheldon’s mother). During The Big Bang Theory Sheldon’s childhood gets brought up multiple times. Young Sheldon, which is also narrated by Jim Parsons, gives more of a full story to how Sheldon Cooper became Dr. Sheldon Cooper. It features Sheldon at the age of nine who is in high school, living in east Texas. The rest of the cast is rounded out with: Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Raegan Revord, Montana Jordan.
Kelly Kahl (CBS Entertainment president) said, “Young Sheldon has made a huge impact on our schedule in the short time it’s been on the air. While the show’s DNA is clearly rooted in The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon has staked out its own place in the TV universe with a unique creative tone, brilliant writing and a gifted multi-generational cast. We can’t wait to see Chuck, Steve, Jim and Todd [Spiewak]’s vision for how the Cooper family deals with Sheldon growing a year older…and smarter.”
Sheldon Cooper is a hit not only as an adult but as a child as well.
