CBS’ newest crime drama, The Equalizer, has been renewed for two more seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This renewal will take the series through its fourth year in 2023 – 2024.
The series followed Robyn McCall, played by Queen Latifah (Hairspray), who possessed an immensely mysterious background, which led her to her destiny as “The Equalizer.” Her role consisted of acting as an anonymous guardian angel to those with nowhere else to turn.
“The Equalizer continues to pack a powerful punch on Sunday nights, and we’re thrilled to have it back for two more seasons,” senior executive vice president of programming at CBS, Thom Sherman, said, via The Hollywood Reporter. “The success of The Equalizer is due to the sum of its parts – an outstanding cast led by the superb Queen Latifah, plus the exceptional creative team that has continued to evolve their storytelling with a compelling mix of everyday justice, family dynamics and real-world issues that connect and resonate with audiences.”
The Equalizer was adapted from CBS’ 1980s drama of the same title, which was subsequently adapted into two films starring Denzel Washington (Training Day). The newest adaptation dropped Chris Noth (Sex and the City) from its cast after he was accused of sexual assault by two women.
The series stars Liza Lapira (21), Adam Goldberg (How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days), Tory Kittles (Colony), Lorraine Toussaint (Any Day Now) and Lay DeLeon Hayes (Santa Hunters) alongside Latifah.
With this renewal, The Equalizer has joined the list of renewed CBS series for the upcoming 2022-2023 season, including Blue Bloods, Bob Hearts Abishola, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Neighborhood, SWAT and Young Sheldon.
