CBS Renews ‘So Help Me Todd’ For A Second Season

According to the Hollywood Reporter, CBS has just renewed the hit legal drama show, So Help Me Todd, for a second season. The series is but one in a string of CBS shows to have an early addition to the roster of the 2023-2024 season.

As written by the Hollywood Reporter, the first-year drama starring Skylar Astin (the Pitch Perfect franchise, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) and Marcia Gay Harden (Miller’s Crossing, Mystic River) has been a frequently valuable performer for CBS on Thursday nights, averaging roughly 6.3 million views on-air over seven days and 7.4 million over five weeks of cross-platform viewing. So Help Me Todd is the latest series to be added to the upcoming CBS 2023-2024 season lineup alongside other shows such as Ghosts, Fire Country, The Neighborhood, and Bob Hearts Absihola.

As the Hollywood Reporter writes, this recent crop of early approved renewals at CBS and other such broadcast networks could prove detrimental for the potential Hollywood union strikes set to occur sometime later in 2023. With the upcoming season locked in, shows may keep writers rooms open and continue production in spite of possible work stoppages by the Writers Guild. All episodes secured ahead of the potential strike would allow networks to have a small amount of scripted programming available ahead of when the new season begins in September.

CBS President Amy Reisenbach said in a statement that, “So Help Me Todd has charmed viewers with the incomparable chemistry between Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin. With the series’ unique blend of captivating legal drama. laugh-out-loud humor and intriguing family dysfunction, it’s no wonder the audience continues to grow. I am delighted that these two inimitable characters and their entertaining banter will extend into a second season.”

So far, CBS has yet to confirm when audiences can expect an announcement for the release date of the season season of So Help Me Todd.
