According to the Hollywood Reporter, CBS has just renewed the high-stakes Northern California firefighter drama series Fire Country for a second season. The series premiered only a few months ago on October 7, 2022, but CBS has already signed off on production for a new season.
For those not in the know, Fire Country tells the story of Bode Donovan, played by Max Thieriot (Bates Motel, House at the End of the Street), a young convict with a sordid past seeking redemption and a shorter prison sentence by enrolling in the California Conservation Camp Program, an organization which partners inmates with elite firefighters to extinguish deadly and uncontrollable wildfires across the region. Through universal fate, Donovan ends up getting assigned to his hometown in Northern California where he must grapple with the pressures of his louche reputation, reconnect with old friends and family, and take on a never-ending series of life-threatening wildfires.
As written by the Hollywood Reporter, CBS claims that Fire Country has averaged about eight million viewers per episode, with the number rising to somewhere around ten million when factoring in streaming across all platforms. Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, stated, “it’s pretty remarkable to see a new series resonate like this with both broadcast and streaming audiences right out of the gate. Fire Country has so many appealing entry points for the audience. It combines high-stakes action with small-town charm, mystery and romance, and a family franchise at its core.”
The series also stars such acting talents as Kevin Alejandro (Lucifer, Arrow), Jordan Calloway (Riverdale, Black Lightning), Billy Burke (the Twilight franchise, Revolution), and Diane Farr (Numb3rs, Rescue Me).
So far, CBS has yet to announce a release date for the second season of Fire Country, though the Hollywood Reporter confirms that the show will return sometime during the 2023-2024 season.
