The hit CBS series The Equalizer will return to our screens for another season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has ordered a fifth season of the drama, continuing the story of CIA detective McCall. With this, CBS also plans to release the full 2023-2024 schedule on May 2.
The Equalizer is a series centered around Robyn McCall, played by Queen Latifa (Taxi, Hairspray), who previously worked for the CIA, and is now using her skills to help out those who are in need. The official description for the show reads, “Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman in New York City and single mother to teenage daughter Delilah with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn, acting as a guardian angel and a defender for those who cannot defend themselves while pursuing her own redemption.”
The Equalizer is also a reimagining of the series from 1985-1989 with the same title. According to THR it is not related to the film franchise starring Denzel Washington (Remember The Titans, Fences), but that franchise is influenced by the original 1985 series as well. With the renewal of the season, The current series will pass the original in-season count, but it still will fall short of the episode count. The original Equalizer had 88 episodes, while the new series only has 56.
With the announcement of the new series, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach spoke about how excited the network is for the new season. She states: “The Equalizer, led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama. The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes, and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season.”
As of now, there is no announcement of production beginning or when the new season will premiere.
