CBS’ Ghosts has halted production due to a positive COVID-19 case on the set of the series, which shoots in Montreal, according to Variety. The show was in the middle of producing its season finale when a COVID case forced a premature shutdown.
The series’ shutdown comes as the spread of the new COVID-19 Omicron variant has begun to impact the entertainment industry, just as it did at the beginning of the pandemic. A surge in cases in New York has already forced the shutdowns of Broadway shows like Mrs. Doubtfire: The Musical, MJ The Musical, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Ain’t Too Proud, Freestyle Love Supreme, and Hamilton. CBS has not stated whether an actor on the show contracted the virus, or whether it was a member of the crew. Production on the show will return in January, after the holidays.
Adapted from a UK series, Ghosts follows a young couple who inherit a rundown country house, only to discover that it’s already overcome by its deceased previous residents. The show quickly became a fan-favorite for the network, averaging 7.89 million viewers in its first season, and is the No. 2 comedy this season, preceded by Young Sheldon.
As Omicron continues to spread during the holidays, more shutdowns are expected to take place in the future.
