According to an article from TheHollywoodReporter Sony Television wants to take over the distribution of the game shows ‘Jeopardy’, and ‘Wheel of Fortune’ which is owned by CBS. Judge Kevin C. Brazile recently has given CBS temporary restraining order which will give refrain Sony Television access to distributing the two game shows says TheHollywoodReporter.
TheHollywoodReporter says this all started after CBS “breached long-standing contract to distribute to two shows. CBS then filed for the restraining order, seeking to keep the terms of the deal in place.” A spokesperson for CBS Media Ventures spoke out about the incident saying “We’re pleased the court issued a temporary restraining order against Sony’s unlawful actions,” says TheHollywoodReporter. The spokesperson goes on to say that they will continue on the regular schedule of distributing ‘Wheel of Fortune’ like they have been doing for over 40 years.
‘Jeopardy’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune’ which are the most popular game shows in the United states have been in a battle since October 2024 after Sony sued CBS saying that the company “has been egregiously undercutting the value and profitability of these shows in favor of its own self-interest,” according to TheHollywoodReporter. According to the article since the judge has issued the restraining order against Sony TheHollywoodReporter says “the company will continue its role as distributor of the two game shows — which includes delivering episodes to local stations and handling ad sales and marketing.
TheHollywoodReporter says that CBS then reported a countersuit against Sony saying that the company “was trying to use the courts to get out of the contract between the companies and win distribution rights to Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune for free.” There has been no evidence to come forward about this . Since the restraining order is temporary there is no exact date on when the court will resume with a final decision.
