CBS’ “Elementary” Coming to an End After Season 7

To no one’s surprise, CBS’ lowest-rated drama, Elementary will debut its seventh and final season according to the Hollywood Reporter. It might be juvenile, but what better pun to use here than “no sh*t Sherlock,” but the bubble-stylized series has wrapped production for its final 13 episodes in what will bring a conclusion to the revamped and diversified take on the Sherlock & Holmes story.

Starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, the show features master investigator Sherlock Holmes disgracefully fleeing from rehab in London. Arriving into present-day Manhattan, he quickly meets and acquaints himself with Dr. Watson who attempts to provide Holmes with penance as an addict.

However, Holmes throws himself into the mix as a consultant for the NYPD, solving cases and formulizing a good team amidst Dr. Joan Watson. The modernized version of the detective and his wise servicemen dynamic has been plummeting in viewership though, only being kept alive by its foreign sales and Netflix contracts which have transformed the show into a cash cow for CBS producers. Last year at this time, Elementary was kept absent of the network’s midseason schedule and held still for a late spring bridge between the traditional broadcast season and the summer programming. Production wrapped with stars Miller and Liu’s contracts coming to their natural end. The show will conclude with 154 episodes and will join alongside the 12-season-long CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. CBS remains strong with a deep roster, and the batting average is steady thus far, but Elementary fans are sure to walk away from their favorite series with bittersweetness.
