CBS Developing Workplace Comedy ‘Beantown’ Set in 1773 Boston From Dan Kopelman, Kapital & TrillTV

Deadline reports that CBS is creating a multi-camera workplace comedy, Beantown, from Wendi Trilling’s (The Neighborhood, The Unicorn) TrillTV, Dan Kopelman (Tru Jackson, VP, Me, Myself & I), Aaron Kaplan’s (The Chi, A Million Little Things) Kaplan Entertainment, and CBS Studios. Beantown is based on an idea from Kaplan and written by Kopelman.

The series takes place in a Boston coffeehouse in 1773 where patrons and employees discuss the events of their days and life experiences. The timing and location indicated that it will include the events surrounding the Boston Tea Party.

Kopelman executive produces with Trilling for TrillTV as well as Kaplan and Melanie Frankel (HouseBroken, JumpStart) for Kaplan Entertainment. Kevin Marco (Best Ink, Khloé & Lamar) will oversee the project at Kapital.

Kopelman previously created and executive produced CBS’s Me, Myself & I from Kapital, which aired for one season and premiered on September 25, 2017. It starred Jack Dylan Grazer (We Are Who We Are, Shazam! Fury of the Gods), John Larroquette (Night Court, The Librarians), and Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live, DuckTales).

He served as a writer and producer of the first five seasons of Malcom in the Middle starring Frankie Munez (Agent Cody Banks, Big Fat Liar), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Your Honor), Erik Per Sullivan (Twelve, CHristmas with the Kranks), Jane Kaczmarek (Pleasantville, Raising the Bar), Christopher Masterson (That 70’s Show, Scary Movie 2), and Justin Berfield (Unhappily Ever After, Max Keeble’s Big Movie), which Kopelman earned a WGA Award nomination for. Kopelman was also a co-executive producer on Galavant on ABC and an executive producer for CBS’s Rules of Engagement. Kopelman is represented by Yorn, Levine, Barnes, and UTA.

CBS’s other upcoming projects produced by Kapital and TrillTV include a sixth season of the hit multi-camera comedy series The Neighborhood and comedy pilot JumpStart.

No other details regarding the series are currently known.
