CBS Celebrates Full-Season Orders of ‘Poppa’s House’ And ‘NICS: Origins’

CBS has done it again to ensure the Monday lineup is secure. Poppa’s House and NCIS: Origins earn full-season renewals, promising more drama and entertainment ahead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has gathered audience feedback and opinions and is excited to announce that the two freshman sitcoms will be back for another season.

Both shows, produced by CBS Studios, will each receive 18 episodes for their debut seasons. Poppa’s House, starring father-and-son duo Damon Wayans Sr. (In Living Color, Lethal Weapon) and Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl, Happy Endings), and NCIS: Origins, a prequel to the hit series NCIS that also serves as its lead-in, have found a comfortable home on the network’s Monday night lineup, complementing established hits The Neighborhood and NCIS.

“NCIS: Origins has introduced a fresh and exciting layer to the NCIS franchise, offering a compelling origin story for Leroy Jethro Gibbs set against a nostalgic ’90s backdrop,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“With its unique characters, captivating stories, and smart crime-solving, the show brings a new dimension to the NCIS universe. Meanwhile, Poppa’s House shines with the fantastic father-son chemistry between Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., whose relatable family-driven storylines really bring the comedy to life. Both shows have quickly become integral parts of our Monday night lineup, resonating with audiences on both CBS and Paramount+.” via The Hollywood Reporter.

The two shows join the Young Sheldon spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage in securing full-season pickups at CBS. Meanwhile, the network has already renewed its Matlock reboot for the 2025-26 season via The Hollywood Reporter.

According to streaming numbers from CBS and VideoAmp linear data, the Oct. 14 premiere of NCIS: Origins captivated an impressive 9 million viewers. Meanwhile, Poppa’s House, which premiered a week later, has attracted 6.41 million cross-platform viewers. It’s noteworthy that CBS is allegedly in a contract dispute with Nielsen and is not using their ratings data for now.

Poppa’s House also stars Essence Atkins (Half & Half, Are We There Yet?) and Tetona Jackson (Boomerang, All Night). Dean Lorey (My Wife and Kids, Arrested Development) executive produces the series with Wayans Sr. and Wayans Jr.

The cast of NCIS: Origins includes Austin Stowell (Catch-22, The Secret Life of the American Teenager), who portrays young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, originally played by Mark Harmon (NCIS, The West Wing), Kyle Schmid (Six, Being Human), Mariel Molino (Promised Land, Madres), Tyla Abercrumbie (Chicago Med, The Chi), Diany Rodriguez (Law & Order: Organized Crime, The Blacklist) and Caleb Foote (The Kids Are Alright, American Horror Story). Executive production is helmed by franchise veterans David J. North (NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans) and Gina Lucita Monreal (NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles), alongside Mark Harmon and Sean Harmon (NCIS, Major Crimes), ensuring that the legacy of NCIS continues with the same caliber of storytelling and production quality.

With the renewals of Poppa’s House and NCIS: Origins, these shows promise to deliver even more engaging drama and entertainment, much to the delight of their growing fanbase. With these exciting additions, CBS continues to strengthen its position as a leader in captivating television programming.
