It was just announced by Deadline that CBS brought on Essence Atkins (Same Difference, Low High) and Tetona Jackson (All Night, Home Economics) to their latest untitled pilot. They will join Damon Wayans (The Last Boy Scout, My Wife And Kids) and Damon Wayans Jr (Big Hero 6, The Other Guys) in the family comedy.
CBS ordered a pilot from Damon Wayans Jr. in February of this year. It centers around, “radio host, Poppa, who has his point of view challenged at work when a new co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son, who is a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.” via. Deadline.
This pilot would be produced and written by Wayans and Wayans Jr. Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing, Mr. Iglesias) would join them as an executive producer and Andy Ackerman (Seinfeld, Cheers) would double as an executive producer as well as the director for the pilot.
Wayans would star as Poppa; Wayans Jr. would be Junior. Atkins would star as Dr. Ivy Reed and Jackson is cast to play Nina. It is described by Deadline that Dr. Ivy Reed is an intelligent, savvy, and competitive co-host who would complement Poppa and instigate a rivalry between them. Nina is described as Junior’s biggest supporter and advocate for his passion for music.
CBS Studios, where Wayans Jr.’s Two Shakes Entertainment has been based since its launch, is the studio. Kameron Tarlow, VP Productions, will be overseeing the project for Two Shakes. Atkins is repped by Buchwald and Kathy McComb Management and Jackson is repped by BRS-Gage and The Priluck Company.
As of now, there are no further announcements regarding a potential air date for release. There would be more information that will surface as time goes on.
