According to Deadline, CBS has just cast both David Del Rio (Maggie, Pitch Perfect) and Leah Lewis (Nancy Drew, The Half of It) for the upcoming reboot series of Matlock. The two will be joined by Kathy Bates (Misery, American Horror Story), Skye P. Marshall (To Her, With Love, A Nice Girl Like You), and Eric Christian Olsen (NCIS: Los Angeles, Not Another Teen Movie), who have already agreed to become part of the revival project.
As written by Deadline, the fresh take on the classic mystery crime drama show tells the story of Madeline Matlock (Bates), a genius woman in her 70’s who rejoins the work force at a high-level law firm where she utilizes her traditionally unassuming disposition and crafty tricks to break hard-cracking cases and expose corruptions from within the legal system itself. The new series is written by Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin, Charmed reboot) and directed by Kat Coiro (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Marry Me).
Del Rio is purportedly set to portray Billy, a charming and raffish young associate only a couple of years out of law school who gets assigned to work on one of the firm’s biggest and most important cases. Along the way, he helps Matty settle into her new work environment, though he seems to be aware of certain secrets that might prove detrimental to her future at the firm.
Lewis will play Sarah, a starry-eyed junior associate who is willing to step on as many heads as possible to get to the top. She is overly-ambitious and willing to do anything to move to a higher position in the firm, which is why she becomes annoyed when she is forced to work with Matty, lowering both her reputation and employment status.
Currently, CBS has yet to announces when fans of the iconic and beloved franchise can expect an announcement for the release date of the reboot series.
