According to Deadline, CBS has cancelled canceled True Lies, the reboot of James Cameron’s (Titanic, Aliens) hit 1994 action comedy, after one season. The series’ season one finale will air on May 17.
Deadline reports that True Lies has been CBS’ lowest-rated scripted series of the season. The steady ratings indicated a core audience, however, it was unable to grow.
CBS recently announced it was cancelling East New York and would be reversing the cancellation of S.W.A.T. The network has placed orders on Kathy Bates’ (Misery, American Horror Story) Matlock reboot, Robert and Michelle King’s (Evil, The Good Fight) The Good Wife spinoff, Elsbeth, and Damon and Damon Jr. comedy titled Poppa’s House. CBS has also announced it is producing a workplace comedy series from Aaron Kaplan (The Chi, A Million Little Things) and Dan Kopelman (Tru Jackson, VP, Me, Myself & I), Beantown.
True Lies comes from Matt Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted), McG (The Winchesters, Not Dead Yet), Cameron and 20th Television. It stars Ginger Gonzaga (I’m Dying Up Here, Wrecked) and Steve Howey (Shameless, Reba) portraying the roles from the 1994 movie originally played by Jamie Lee Curtis (Scream Queens, Halloween) and Arnold Schwarzenagger (The Terminator, Predator).
Howey plays Harry, a first-class international spy for U.S. intelligence agency Omega Sector, and Gonzaga plays his wife, Helen, a language professor who is bored with her routine and makes a shocking discovery that her ordinary husband is leading a double life.
True Lies also stars Mike O’Gorman (Vice Principals, Ugly Americans), Lucas Jaye (Fuller House, Merry Happy Whatever), Erica Hernandez (Brittany Runs a Marathon, Bridge and Tunnel), Annabella Didion (Dog Gone, Beast Beast), and Omar Miller (CSI: Miami, Ballers).
Along with Cameron, McG, and Nix, the series was executive produced by Rae Sanchini (Solaris, Strange Days), Josh Levy (Backstorm, Bones), Mary Viola (Brooklyn’s Finest, Stolen), Corey Marsh (Holidate, The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Sean Hoagland (Sinners, Rock Haven), Whitney Davis (Sharon Love & Pain, The Bold and the Beautiful), and the director of the pilot, and Anthony Hemingway (Red Tails, Changing Lanes).
Season one of True Lies aired on CBS on March 1, 2023.
