Young Sheldon debuted on CBS in 2017, and the series serves as a prequel to The Big Bang Theory. According to Deadline, CBS has revealed that the seventh season, which premieres February 15th, 2024, will also serve as the final season. Additionally, the series finale episode will air on Thursday, May 16th and will be an hour long.
As Deadline notes, the President of CBS Entertainment Amy Reisenbach spoke about this news. She stated, “As a prequel to one of the biggest comedies, Young Sheldon proved lightning can strike twice. It set itself apart with a remarkable cast that felt like a family from the first moment we saw them on screen and brought characters to life with unique heartfelt stories that drew audiences in from the start.”
She continued, “We extend a sincere thank you to executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland and the entire writing and producing teams for six wonderful seasons. We look forward to seeing their final season unfold and giving it a proper sendoff with the best episodes yet for their fans to enjoy.”
Young Sheldon was created by Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men) and Steven Molaro (The Big Bang Theory, Drake & Josh Go Hollywood). Both Lorre and Molaro serve as executive producers along with Steve Holland (Rules of Engagement, The Big Bang Theory), Todd Spiewak (Special, The Legend of Georgia McBride), and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory, Spoiler Alert).
Lorre, Molaro, and Holland, according to Deadline, also spoke about the series coming to an end. They stated, “Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience. We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”
The series stars Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies, The Glass Castle) as Sheldon, Raegan Revord (Modern Family, Wish Upon) as Missy, Montana Jordan (The Big Bang Theory, The Legacy of the Whitetail Deer Hunter) as Georgie, Annie Potts (Ghostbusters, Pretty in Pink) as Meemaw, Lance Barber (The Comeback, Bad Meat) as George, Zoe Perry (Scandal, Liv and Maddie) as Mary, and more.
