The star power at Ryan Murphy’s newest FX anthology series, Feud, just keeps growing. Back in May, it was announced that Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon would join the project when it was ordered straight to series. And now, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Catherine Zeta-Jones has also joined the cast of the show.
Murphy took to Twitter to confirm the news and said Zeta-Jones will portray Olivia De Havilland, a film star whose acting career spanned from the 1930s through the 1980s.
De Havilland was good friends with Bette Davis and ended up replacing Joan Crawford in the movie Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte. Both of these could be explored as part of Zeta-Jones’ storyline on Feud.
Zeta-Jones is more known for her movies roles, including 1998’s The Mask of Zorro, 2002’s Chicago, 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve and 2005’s The Legend of Zorro. In terms of television, she’s starred in many different miniseries and television movies, including 1996’s Titanic miniseries, Catherine The Great and starred in The Darling Buds of May from 1991 through 1993. She won a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2001 with the cast of Traffic and won numerous awards for her role as Velma Kelly in Chicago, including an Academy Award and two SAG Awards.
For each different season that there is of the show, Feud is expected to focus on different well-known Hollywood feuds throughout time, with the first season of the show focusing on the feud between Bette Davis (Sarandon) and Joan Crawford (Lange) while on the set of the 1962 movie What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and the feud that had been happening between the two stars before the movie started filming.
The show is expected to air in 2017. Along with Lange and Sarandon starring in the anthology series, Alfred Molina has been cast as Robert Aldrich, the director and producer of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Judy Davis as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper and Stanley Tucci as Jack Warner, the head of Warner Bros. Studio during the time of the feud. Variety is also reporting that Victor Buono, one of the stars in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? will be played by Dominic Burgess. The first season will have eight episodes.
