Cast And Showrunners Of ‘One Day at a Time’ Are Reuniting For A Charity Table Read

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the cast and showrunners of the Netflix original One Day at Time will reunite for a one-day charity table read. They will be reuniting on October 5 in Los Angeles for an event benefitting the People for the American Way Foundation. The foundation was founded by series creator Norman Lear (The Jeffersons) and will feature table reads of three unproduced scripts from the show’s fourth and final season.

Co-showrunners and executive producers Gloria Calderón Kellett (With Love) and Mike Royce (Enlisted) said in a statement, “Reuniting our One Day at a Time cast to bring these unaired, unshot episodes to life — including what would have been our series finale — is a powerful reminder of the magic of Norman Lear and his work. It was an honor to bring this Latine family to the screen, and this reading is not just a celebration, but a chance to connect with our incredible fans once more and support a cause close to our hearts, People For The American Way Foundation, another of Norman’s brainchildren. Together, we honor Norman’s legacy, our beloved show and a community that has always supported us.”

As per The Hollywood Reporter, producer of the series Sandi Hochman (Child’s Play) is producing the table read with Kellett, Royce and fellow EP Brent Miller (Ninjago). The show’s core cast, which includes Justina Machado (Torque), Rita Moreno (West Side Story), Stephen Tobolowsky (Hacks), Todd Grinnell (With Love), Marcel Ruiz (Breakthrough), India de Beaufort (Slumberland) and Ed Quinn (The Oval) are set to be in attendance.”

“Norman Lear was brilliant at portraying loving families of all kinds, and he was adamant that all kinds of families, all kinds of Americans, deserve to be treated with respect and dignity and share in the blessings of liberty,” “said People For the American Way Foundation president Svante Myrick (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) via The Hollywood Reporter. “We are grateful to the producers and cast of One Day at a Time for helping People For the American Way Foundation carry on Norman’s work of defending our democracy and ensuring that ‘We, the People’ includes all the people.”

The episodes to be featured at the benefit are “Church and Statement,” “Best Birthday” and the series finale, “Dreams.”
