Carrie Coon Signs on As ‘Fargo’ Season 3’s Female Lead

Season three of Fargo has found its leading lady.

TVLine reported today that Carrie Coon from The Leftovers will be joining the upcoming season of FX’s Fargo. Coon will play opposite Ewan McGregor who signed on earlier this year to play a dual role in season three.

In the next chapter of the anthology series, Coon will play Gloria Burgle, the chief of the Eden Valley police. Gloria is described as the sort of lady who will keep her wits about her when everyone else would rather panic and doesn’t understand why people have become more infatuated with their phones than the people around them.

As for McGregor’s characters (yes plural), he will be playing brothers Emmit and Ray Stussey. Emmit is described as a handsome and self-made real-estate mogul who likes to refer to himself the Parking Lot King of Minnesota and  Ray is a balding and pot-bellied parole officer who is unhappy with his life. Ray likes to compare himself to his more successful brother and blame Emmit for his situation.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Noah Hawley revealed details about the third installment of Fargo and confirmed it will connect with the previous two. “There are going to be connections, the way the first year was connected to the movie and the second year was connected to the first, but I think part of the fun is figuring that stuff out and I wouldn’t want to take that away from anybody,” said Hawley. “There will be definitely things that connect to something in our story.” The next season is also rumored to be set closer to present day and will leave the 20th century and enter into the 21st.

Coon is currently filming the third and final season of The Leftovers in Australia. Her other credits include the film Gone Girl and Broadway production Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Season one of Fargo is currently available to stream on Hulu and season three is expected to premiere in the spring of 2017.
