Variety reports that CBS has set several premiere dates for their summer schedule, including dates for Candy Crush from Lionsgate TV, Season 3 of Zoo, Season 19 of Big Brother, and new thriller Salvation.
Salvation will come on screen on July 12, Big Brother on June 28, Zoo on June 29, and the new live-action game show Candy Crush is set to premiere on Sunday, July 9.
How could the candy-matching smartphone and tablet game possibly be a game show, you ask? In the new Candy Crush teams of two will have to race to complete massive interactive board games over the course of an hour long episode. Rather than line up colored candies in a Bejeweled-like attempt to earn points, teams will have to overcome obstacles and play their way toward the crown. Variety also reports that Candy Crush on CBS will offer an option for viewers to play along at home.
Zoo is based on the James Patterson novel by the same name and just one of many dystopian series on air like The 100 and The Handmaid’s Tale. It began with James Wolk portraying Jackson Oz, a zoologist who begins realizing that the animals he sees on African safaris are acting out-of-the-ordinary before the attacks begin. In Season 3, the human race is in more danger than ever with the threat of low birth rates and and an army of “the hybrids:” lab-made, human-hating creatures bent on destroying mankind.
Big Brother is a reality game show that observes HouseGuests who are trapped in a house together with no outside communication, while winners of challenges nominate other guests for eviction. At the end of the competition the winner receives a grand prize of $500,000. The show is largely a social experiment, with the contestants under 24/7 surveillance. Though we all know how differently people act and socialize when they know that “Big Brother is watching.”
Salvation will focus on techies Darius Tanz (Santiago Cabrera) and Liam Cole (Charlie Rowe) who arrive at the Pentagon with the news that an asteroid is on a six-month collision course with the Earth. It looks like the 13-episode drama and suspense thriller will be just that; once the asteroid is taken care of there won’t me much room for the show to grow past 13 episodes.
The nineteenth season of Big Brother will premiere at 8:00 PM for a two hour special on Wednesday, June 28. Zoo‘s new season will premiere on Thursday June 29 at 10:00 PM. Candy Crush will air at 9:00 PM Sunday July 9, and Salvation premieres at 9:00 PM on Wednesday July 12.
