Variety reports that Britt Robertson (Life Unexpected, The Secret Circle, Tomorrowland) has landed a new role on Netflix’s upcoming series Girlboss.
The original series comes from Sophia Amoruso’s memoir— also titled Girlboss— and series creator and executive producer Kay Cannon (New Girl, Pitch Perfect).
There will be a total of 13 comedic episodes starring Britt Robertson as Sophia, a young fashion entrepreneur who starts her business by selling vintage clothing online which ultimately leads to a successful fashion empire. Being young and rebellious however ultimately proves to be a source of naivety for Sophia when she realizes just how difficult it is to juggle the responsibilities of her own life.
The series is based on Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso’s life and experiences growing her business.
Joining Cannon as executive producers include not only Amoruso but also Charlize Theron (Snow White, Mad Max) and Laverne McKinnon— who is the Head of Television at Denver & Delilah. Stepping in as director will be Christian Ditter— who directed this year’s How To Be Single starring Rebel Wilson and Dakota Johnson.
At 26, Robertson has been in many projects over the years. She has held lead roles in CBS’ Under The Dome and The CW’s The Secret Circle and Life Unexpected. She is also credited with lead roles in major movies Tomorrowland where she worked with Brad Bird and George Clooney and The Longest Ride based off of a Nicholas Sparks novel by the same title.
Robertson can soon be seen in upcoming movies The Space Between, Mr. Church, and A Dog’s Purpose. The Space Between will be starring Gary Oldman. Mr. Church will feature Robertson opposite Eddie Murphy as “Mr. Church”. A Dog’’s Purpose is s DreamWorks creation featuring Bradley Cooper as the voice of a dog and Robertson as a girl named Hannah.
Girlboss is expected to premiere sometime in 2017, with 13 half-hour episodes.
