According to Deadline, Bridgerton has announced the addition of Hannah New (Black Sails, Trust) as a new cast member for season three. This is the latest announcement regarding the show since the teaser was revealed at Tudum earlier this year.
According to Deadline, the actress will be playing Lady Tilley Arnold, a firebrand widow. The Lady widowed at an early age and now gets to enjoy the privileges and power this gives her. She gets to be at the helm of her late husband’s estate and gets to live her life on her terms having financial independence and sexual freedom.
The third season of Bridgerton is already in production and it has been revealed that the first episode will be titled ‘Out of the Shadows.’ The new season will be helmed by Jess Brownell (Inventing Anna, Scandal), the new showrunner. They will be replacing Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy) who worked as showrunner for the first two seasons.
Season three will change its focus from Anthony Bridgerton played by Jonathan Bailey (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, W1A), to his younger brother Colin Bridgerton played by Luke Newton (The Lodge, Doctors). This season the viewers will get to see his possible love story with Penelope Featherington aka Lady Whistledown played by Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls, Harlots).
At the end of the second season, a rift had been created in Penelope’s and Colin’s relationship after she heard him disparage her with his friends. In the aftermath of this, Penelope decides that she is going to focus on finding a husband who will allow her some independence so that she can continue to write as Lady Whistledown. At the beginning of the new season, Colin has recently returned from his summer travels and is dissuaded from receiving Penelope’s cold shoulder. In an attempt to get their friendship back, Colin decides to help Penelope by boosting her confidence so that it will be easier for her to attract the perfect husband.
Other new cast members include Daniel Francis (Stay Close, Once Upon a Time) who will be playing Marcus Anderson, Sam Phillips (The Crown, The Syndicate) who will be playing Lord Debling, and James Phoon (Wreck, Dodo) who will play Harry Dankworth. Their roles in the overall narrative of the show are still unknown. In season three, Hannah Dodd (Eternals, Find Me in Paris) will be taking the role of Francesca Bridgerton who was previously played by younger actress Ruby Stokes (Una, A Banquet).
