‘Bridgerton’ Prequel ‘Queen Charlotte’ Sets Premiere Date & Drops New Teaser Trailer

According to DeadlineBridgerton prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, will release on May 4, 2023 on Netflix. This was revealed by Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Inventing Anna), creator and executive producer, at a virtual fan event on Tuesday. Netflix has also released a teaser trailer for the limited series which gives a first look at the show.

Golda Rosheuvel (Lady Macbeth, Dune) returns as Queen Charlotte for the series, which will follow the titular character’s young life before her reign of power. The series will focus on her early romance with King George that resulted in a change of culture norms, creating the world that Bridgerton audiences are familiar with.

The show introduces India Amarteifio (Gangsta Granny, The Evermoor Chronicles) as young Charlotte, Arsema Thomas (Redeeming Love), as young Agatha Danbury, Corey Mylchreest (The Sandman, Mars) as young George, Freddie Dennis as Reynolds, Michell Fairley (Game of Thrones, Gangs of London) as Princess Augusta, Richard Cunningham (45 Years, London Spy) as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim (Nancy Drew, The Good Liar) as Aldophus, Cyril Nri (Jellyfish, Julius Ceasar) as Lord Danbury, Rob Maloney (Coronation Street, Emmerdale Farm) as the Royal Doctor, and Sam Clemmett (Cherry, Survivor) as young Brimsley. George is a charismatic royal, held back from love by his mysterious past, and Agatha is Charlotte’s close friend.

Actors returning from Bridgerton include Adjoa Andoh (Fractured, Invictus) as Lady Agatha Danbury, Ruth Gemmell (Fever Pitch, Home Fires) as Lady Violet, and Hugh Sacks (Like Minds, The Shell Seekers) as Brimsley.

The series is directed by Tom Verica (American Dreams, How to Get Away with Murder) and is executive produced by Verica, showrunner and creator Rhimes, and Betsy Beers (The Hoax, Casanova).

Netflix’s Bridgerton first released on December 25, 2020 and follows the eight siblings of the powerful Bridgerton family as they try to find love in the Regency era in England. The first season focuses on Daphne Bridgerton, portrayed by Phoebe Dynevor (The Colour Room, The Sister), and the second season follows eldest sibling Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey (Crashing, Broadchurch). The series also stars Nicole Coughlan (Barbie, Harlots), Claudia Jessie (Vanity Fair, Line of Duty), and Simone Ashley (Sex Education, The Sister). Catch the new teaser below.
