Though things have quieted in the world of network television for a few weeks, as Deadline reports, 20th Century Fox Television has made its bed with murderers and freaks as it inks a multi-year overall deal with American Horror Story executive producer Brad Buecker. It’s no surprise that Buecker landed at Fox, because that’s where Ryan Murphy, who Buecker has worked with on several shows, also has his deal.
Buecker has been collaborating with the mastermind behind American Horror Story, Glee and Nip/Tuck for years as a director and producer. Buecker has directed several episodes of American Horror Story, including the finale “Be Our Guest” from the most recent season, American Horrror Story: Hotel, starring Lady Gaga. Buecker also directed episodes of Ryan Murphy’s musical hit Glee, campy horror show Scream Queens and autobiographical comedy The New Normal.
Buecker began his relationship with Ryan Murphy as an editor for the popularly dark and gory FX drama about plastic surgeons, Nip/Tuck, starring Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon. He also edited the wanderlust-filled feature adaptation of popular memoir Eat, Pray, Love, starring Julia Roberts. Buecker has continued to work with Murphy as an editor as well on Glee and American Horror Story.
Under the new deal, Buecker will continue his role as producer and director for American Horror Story, as well as develop projects for 20th Century Fox Television in both the network and cable spaces. When asked for a comment by Deadline, Ryan Murphy said, “Brad and I have worked together dating all the way back to Nip/Tuck, and he directed some of the most memorable episodes of American Horror Story, Scream Queens and Glee. There’s nothing I’ve thrown at him that he didn’t handle brilliantly, and our casts and crews adore him. I’m pleased that thanks to this new deal, we’ll be collaborating for years to come.”
American Horror Story is entering its sixth season, haunting televisions everywhere on FX this fall. The cast is still largely a mystery, and FX has yet to announce the limited series’ subtitle for this season or many specifics about the locations and focus. In the meantime, Buecker is also directing and producing indie feature Billy Boy, which was written by and stars Blake Jenner.
