On June 7, as part of the ATX Television Festival in Austin, most of the Boy Meets World cast got together to reminisce, share secrets from the old show and give the crowd some teasers for the much-anticipated pilot of Girl Meets World.
Unfortunately, Vulture reports that Danielle Fishel (who played Topanga Lawrence), William Daniels (Mr. Feeny) and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews) were unable to attend.
Creator Michael Jacobs, who is also working on the spin-off Girl Meets World, joined the cast in the panel.
According to Vulture, the cast revealed some fun facts about the original Boy Meets World. For example: Rider Strong was the first one to audition for the role of Shawn Hunter. Jacobs offered him the part on the spot and did not watch any other auditions.
It was also revealed to the fans that the show was originally going to be about a three-guy trio. In the first three episodes, there were several characters that were being set up to be the third man. However, after those episodes, it was decided that the show would focus more on Corey (Ben Savage) and Shawn. Fishel’s character was introduced in the fourth episode and she became the third “man”.
To end the show, the final scene of the show was taken in one shot. The final scene in which Corey, Shawn, Topanga and Eric gather in Mr. Feeny’s classroom one last time. Since the actors were 13 when filming started, they felt as their characters did: it was the end of an era. They had left childhood behind and were moving on to completely new things.
