‘Bosch’s’ Elle Johnson To Executive Produce Limited Series ‘A Soldier’s Story’

Elle Johnson (Bosch) is slated to write, executive produce and serve as showrunner on the upcoming limited series titled A Soldier’s Story, according to Deadline. The series will be adapted from the award-winning A Soldier’s Play starring Tony-winner David Alan Grier (In Living Color).

Set in 1944 Louisiana, the 1981 play published by Charles Fuller (Zooman) followed the murder investigation of the Sergeant in an all-black unit. Sgt. Vernan Waters was murdered, and Army Captain Davenport, played by Blair Underwood (Set It Off) in the play, must investigate whether the homicide was a product of deeply-rooted racism in the south, or the Black soldiers who despised their sergeant.

While Grier played Sgt. Vernon Waters in the Broadway play, he will star in the upcoming series as Waters’ father. He will also executive produce the upcoming series. Grier also starred in the 1984 film based on the play, as one of the soldiers in the sergeant’s group. It was also titled A Soldier’s Story.

The film also starred Denzel Washington (The Equalizer) and Adolph Caesar (The Hitter), and was nominated for three Academy Awards, Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.
