Yesterday marked the season finale of Disney+’s second Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett. With it came many questions for the future of several characters introduced in The Mandalorian spinoff. One of those questions involved a beloved character’s future in Lucasfilm’s televised universe. Spoilers for the series are featured throughout this article, so beware.
According to Den of Geek, the series concluded with Temuera Morrison’s (Once Were Warriors) Boba Fett, and Ming Na-Wen’s (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Mulan) Fennec Shand, reigning victorious in their duty of protecting Mos Espa. The duo was able to fend off the threat of the Pyke Syndicate, in addition to the arrival of Fett’s nemesis, Cad Bane (voiced by Corey Burton). However, fans are wondering if the villainous hunter is truly gone. While Fett drove a knife through Cad’s chest, no one is ever truly dead in the galaxy far, far away.
This is most evident when it comes to the fate of Timothy Olyphant’s (Justified, The Crazies) Tatooine marshal, Cobb Vanth. The character that first appeared alongside Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, Game of Thrones) in season two of The Mandalorian had prominent role in this series. Den of Geek reports viewers last saw Vanth fall victim to Cad Bane’s crosshairs, gunned down in a Western-style showdown. However, the post-credits scene in episode seven, entitled “In the Name of Honor,” revealed Vanth survived the vicious attack.
According to Den of Geek, the bonus scene revealed Vanth had paid a visit to the Modifier, played by musical artist Thundercat, where he received advanced treatment and modifications. With Vanth alive and well, there is a chance the character could return. A conversation between Fett and Shand hints at a future for the marshal in Mos Espa, as the two former bounty hunters contemplate whether protecting the city best suits their abilities. Vanth has the experience as he protected Tatooine in the past, and his upgrades would make him a more formidable opponent.
Whether it is in the third season of The Mandalorian or possibly another edition of The Book of Boba Fett, fans hope to see Olyphant’s Justified-esque character continue in the Star Wars universe.
All seven episodes of The Book of Boba Fett are available to stream on Disney+.
