Deadline reports that a revival of the cult college football comedy series Blue Mountain State is gaining momentum at Amazon. The sequel series, featuring Alan Ritchson (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Reacher, Titans) reprising his role as Kevin “Thad” Castle, is in the final stages of development. Ritchson, who will also serve as executive producer, expressed enthusiasm for the project during a press conference at the Daytona 500. Ritchson confirmed, “We are going to make a fourth season happen; I’m trying to work it into my schedule. Honestly, I think it’s going to be the best season of BMS we’ve ever had.”

Deadline also reports that the BMS revival is expected to bring back original co-leads Darin Brooks (The Bold and the Beautiful, Amber Brown) and Chris Romano (How I Met Your Mother), along with creator Eric Falconer (The Mick). The series, which aired in 2010 and ran for three seasons on Spike TV, found a new audience and cult status on Netflix after its conclusion. The series is set at a fictional college, and focuses on the antics of its football team, the Mountain Goats. The show follows the adventures of three freshmen as they navigate the challenges of college life, including their athletic pursuits, romantic escapades, academic responsibilities and intense hazing.
According to Deadline, Amazon’s interest in the project is likely influenced by Ritchson’s success with the Reacher series on their platform. The streaming giant is working to accommodate Ritchson’s schedule, indicating their commitment to the project.
A greenlight decision for the new season is anticipated within the next couple of months. If approved, the revival will continue the story of Blue Mountain State University and its football team, the Mountain Goats, adapting the characters to the current times.
